The story tells that there would have been, on the current vineyard of the Château l'Épine, a stele containing a thorn of the crown of Christ. This would be, according to the legend, the origin of the name of the castle the spine. Founded in 1927 by Gabriel Ardouin 1er, the estate is today led by its grandson Gabriel Ardouin II which officiates with passion and humility to the creation of great wines through traditional and family know-how. Located in the ancient “black” sands of the northwest part of the Saint Emilion Grand Cru appellation, on the border of the land of Pomerol, the estate extends over 2 ha 70 where soil, grape varieties and planting age shape theComplexity of the wines of the Château l'Épine. Thus the estate enjoys an atypical terroir which gives the wine pronounced notes of red and black fruits, truffles and smoke, an incomparable roundness and silky.
